Digitalise Agricultural Activities
Challenge
Farmers in Mendawak face limited market access and high dependence on intermediaries or middlemen, who typically offer prices below the market rate. Agricultural activity is not digitalised, making long-term planning difficult and meaning planting patterns are often aligned with market needs. This results in an oversupply of certain commodities, low prices, and untapped market potential.
Solution
Digitalisation of agricultural activities through the development of a spatial-based agricultural database that maps each production area and the type of commodity managed by the community. This approach includes the development of farmland maps, crop catalogues, and the integration of production data as the basis for planting planning, increasing efficiency, and strengthening the relationship between farmers and buyers. This digitalisation is the foundation of an agricultural system that is more transparent, adaptive, and market oriented.
Progress
Sangga Bumi Lestari has conducted agricultural mapping in Kubu, Sumber Agung, and Bagan Asam villages using high-resolution satellite imagery analysis and participatory field data collection.
In Sumber Agung and Kubu, mapping has been focused on horticulture and coconut farming areas, as these are the two principal commodity types. In Bagan Asam, coconut farming is not a main economic activity, so activities focused on staple horticulture commodities.
In Kubu Village, 350 farmers were identified, covering a total farm area of 120.35 hectares. In Sumber Agung Village, 14 farmers were identified, with a total mapped farm area of 34.82 hectares. In Bagan Asam Village, 61 farmers were identified, with a total mapped farm area of 44 hectares.
